BOB IIIIIIII

Hello, back for my last Bob of the year and what a unit to end off the year. This unit was one of the better units we have had all year in my opinion. Other then the memorizing of the equations and when to use them, it is simply all fitting an equation into the problems and plugging in the value. I found this unit to have been difficult at first especially when doing the homework, although after the memorization of the equations and when I had to use them, the questions were a lot easier. All though the unit seems easier then the others, I believe the questions can become very hard and the difficulty of the test may become a challenge. All in All I believe this unit was one of the easier ones and as long as I study once again tonight, I think I am going to be ready for the test. Study hard and good luck guys and gals for the sequences test and the long awaited Provincial Exam next week.

BOB IIIIIII

Hello once again, back for my seventh BOB. Well what can I say this unit was a little hard towards the end of the unit, because of the permutations and counting sections which were mixed together. Although I am a little uneasy about those types of questions i believe this test should not be that bad after all. Probability was simply just a concept you had to learn and once you had the hang of it you can challenge any problem you liked. This is why I believe the test should not be difficult, unless there are many counting questions, which I bet there are. So all in all i found this unit to be quite straight forward and not very difficult once the concept is learnt. Good luck to all and make sure to study hard, Probability Test tomorrow morning.

Probability Pre-Test

Hello, i am the class scribe for this evening. We started today's class with a pre-test, because tomorrow is our long awaited test on probability. Basically the Pre-test had lasted almost the full class, because many of the students had questions about the questions on the pre-test. So to not get carried away here are the questions and the solutions to the pre-test questions.

question #1: Twelve people including you are members of the choir. The choir director is going to choose three members to attend a workshop. The probability you and two other members will be chosen is:
a. 1/4 b. 3/10 c. 1/12 d. 1/10

The answer is 1/4, because you are going so it is 1 * 11c2, because there are 11 members left and the director needs to pick two of them. It is all over 12c3, because it is over all the possibilities. So once that is calculated it is 1/4.

question #2: Rex is playing a guessing game. The probability he will guess each question correct is 0.3. What is the probability he will guess exactly 5 out of 10 questions correctly?
a. 0.15 b. 0.10 c. 0.29 d. 0.80

The answer is 0.10, because he must get 5 out of 10 questions correct so it is RRRRRWWWWW.
So it is 10!/5!*5!, because there are 5w's and 5r's. Then the 10!/5!*5! is multiplied by (0.3)^5*(0.7)^5 which is the binomial theorem. So once it is all worked out you achieve the answer of 0.10.

question#3: You choose 4 digits from the numbers (0-9), with no repeated digits. To win a prize only two numbers need to match the four selected by the computer.The probability, correct to the nearest one hundredth that you will win a prize.

The answer is 54.76%, because you must take the amount of numbers you are able to match with the computer to win a prize in this case 4c2, 4c3, or 4c4 numbers and divide them over all the possibilities which is 10c4, and add them all up. Once added and reduced it should give you a fraction:23/42, which is 54.76%.

question#4: The serial number of a $10 bill contains 8 digits. If your $10 bill contains the digit 7 at least once, you win a prize. What is the probability that your $10 bill will win?

The answer is you must find the probability of when there are no 7's and then you take the complement. So no 7's is basically 9 out of the possible 10 numbers to the exponent (^) of 8, because there is 8 digits. It gives you an answer of 0.4305, so to get the probability that there is a 7 you must take the complement, so 1 - 0.4305 = 56.95%. which is the answer.

question#5: Jeff takes a lunch to school on two days, and on the other three days he buys it. If he takes lunch he is late for his fourth period class 15% of the time, but if he buys it, he is late 35% of the time.

A) what is the probability that Jeff arrives on time?

The answer is that we take percentages of the two times he arrives and add them together to form the answer. So P(o) = P(to) + P(bo) = (0.4)(0.85) + (0.6)(0.65) = 73% which is the answer.

B) If Jeff was late, what is the probability that he took his lunch to school?

The answer is that you must take the probability he was late and took his lunch to school divided by the time he was late and brought his lunch plus the time he was late and bought his lunch. (0.4)(0.15)/(0.4)(0.15) + (0.6)(0.35) = 2/9 or 22.22% which is the answer.

So he is all of what we had done in class to day, when viewing this scribe post make sure to check the slides if you are confused, because it may help you find the way I had shown the answer. Make sure to study because tommorow is our Probability Test.

BOB !!!!!!

This unit on conics was somewhat difficult for me. Especially the part of the unit on the hyperbola, because I did not comprehend all of what the hyperbola was about. Other then the transverse and conjugate axis and the equations of an elipse and hyperbola to be the same. I found that the circle and parabola part of the unit was very easy for me because it was basically review from grade eleven. I found the elipse part of the unit to be also not as hard because it was straight forward and I understood it very well. All in all i found this unit to be alright, although sometimes difficult, it was alright.

BOB

Wow, I almost forgot about Blogging on Blogging. Well, this unit was somewhat difficult for me especially when trying to figure out when to use the pick and choose formula(As they both are different). It was also a challenge to try and solve some of the problems that consisted cards, as in Poker, as it was very difficult to try and solve those questions. Although one part of the unit was very fun and mind-blowing, that was Pascal's triangle. All in all I had fought through this unit and studied very hard, for that monster of a test. So i better get to school now so that I can get on with the test. Good luck everybody.

BOBIIII

Well, hello again back for another BOB. This unit was so very easy when we had begun it, although the exponential questions toward the end of the unit were a lot harder and sometimes confusing. As the unit on logarithms were not hard until you had to piece it all together in exponential modeling questions. All in all I found the exponent and logarithms unit to be very fun and it was also very educational. Especially those exponential modeling questions which were used for real life situations. So I better get back to studying, bye for now and good luck and study hard!

More Exponential Modeling

Hello every one, it is Dino again. Today's class was all about review, because we have finished all of the exponents and logarithms unit. So basically today was a review day so everybody in the class was able to become more familiar in doing exponential modeling questions. Mr. K was also explaining to the students in class today, that on the 17th of April, the Pc40sw07 class was supposed to have a skype conversation with Eddie's class in Georgia, but due to Eddie's class having tests that week, it is postponed until further notice, maybe the week after. Mr. K was also explaining to the class that there was going to be a test on grade 12 pre-cal material that was to be written of the 17th of April from the University of Waterloo, and if anyone in or under grade 12 is interested in writing the test, they were supposed to see Mr. K.
Then Mr. K pulled up more exponential modeling questions on the smart board which were done in groups. I would have liked to show you and explain the slides, although Mr. K did not post them, but that is not to be any worry, because they will probably be posted on Monday, because we did not complete all the slides for the review so we will finish them Monday Morning. As Monday morning is going to be a review period and there will also be a quiz, so that means that Monday afternoon is the pre-test. Tuesday's class is going to be the test day for the Exponents and Logarithms unit.
So Study, Study, Study for Monday's quiz, pre-test, and Tuesday's Test. Make sure to get in those Bobs before the test on Tuesday. Good Luck and Study Hard!

BOB !!!

Hello again, back for another BOB. It seems just like yesterday since I did my other BOB post. Well,trigonometric identities, what a unit. This unit was easy at first considering the first couple days of class was just simple identities like switching tan into Sin/Cos. Then came the harder identities and the identities Sec,Csc, and Cot came into play. Then the sine dance, with sum and difference identities, and then double angle identities. That is when it became hard especially for me, and as I was asking other people in the class, they had the same answer as me. All in all I found the unit to be very tedious, because you had to memorize some of the identities, and have to check over your work simultaneously. I would like to say good luck and study hard, and especially practise those identities. GOOD LUCK !

BOB II

Hello again, what can I say, this unit on Transformations was some what tough for me, especially Trigonometric Modeling toward the end of the unit. Trigonometric Modeling gave me a little trouble, because I was over concentrating and trying to do most of the work required in my head and not down on paper, where I made most of my mistakes. I also had a little trouble in the beginning when graphing functions, although that was quickly corrected when we were told to do stretches before translations ( remember). All in all, the unit was fun, especially the graphing of absolute and inverse functions, because they were not as hard as some of the other graphs we had done. Another interesting subject in the Transformations unit was the even and odd functions which were fun to do. As I was writing this BOB so much has been refreshed in my mind, time to go study!

BOB

Well, I found Circular Functions to be a little challenging at first, especially when memorizing the unit circle, although after the class with Mr. K explaining to us that it is as simple as 1,2,3, and everything is over 2, it all became easier. I found it was also a little overwhelming the day Mr. K gave us graphing functions, it was not hard, although it became confusing, because i did not know where to start, but after Mr. K taught DABC, it all became easier.
The class I found the most enriching, was the class in which we had the Pre-Test, because it showed how everyone put their taughts on paper, and what we did not know, the groups had cleared up. I found that class to be one of the most successful, because it showed how much teaching group work can bring. Good Luck on the test and Study Hard!

The Competition

Hello everyone, I am the scribe for today. This morning's math class was a spare period, due to the fact that Mr. K was in the library with the junior high kids. So, students were either in the library or in the cafeteria, and not in the hallways. The afternoon class started out with Mr. K explaining to us that Tuesday's class will also be a spare, because Mr. K will still be working with the junior high kids in the library. Mr. K then explained that the circular functions test will be moved to Wednesday, because Tuesday's class is cancelled, which was the circular functions test day. After Mr. K finished speaking to the class about the outlook for the next few days, he began the last of the math dictionary notes. Although the math dictionary notes were not to be copied in class, instead it was discussed in class that the math dictionary notes were going to be displayed on the blog, which is posted just below this scribe blog, to copy. So instead of using time up for math dictionary notes, Mr. K had assigned a group review, although it was more like a competition, and the winning group was going to be able to use the smart board, or more like be able to "play on the smart board". The review, made up of graphing questions, had two types of questions, one type gave the graph and you were to come up with the equation in sine and cosine, and the second type of answers were the type in which the equation was given and you were supposed to make the graph. The review questions and answers are in Mr. K's blog post just below this scribe blog. All in all the class went very well and the review, I suspect was very helpful. Before I forget, Mr. K explained that on a graph you should know... The Domain, Range, Roots, Amplitude, Period, and the Y-intercept. Do not forget that Mr. K added links on his blog post two blog posts down from this scribe post, to help review for the circular function test. Remember to review your notes and study for Wednesday's test on circular functions, and fill out the rest of your math dictionary with the math dictionary slides Mr. K posted.
