PRECAL40S: LAST SCRIBE ... for me at least.
JUNE 6, 2007: MORNING CLASS
We had an exam rehearsal for Circular Funtions
The answers are pretty straight forward ...
JUNE 6, 2007: AFTERNOON CLASS
We had another exam rehearsal for Combinatories
and again the answers are pretty straight forward ...
JUNE 7, 2007: MORNING CLASS
Yet, Again we had another exam rehearsal for Logarithm. We had a substitute for Mr. K. She didn't really gave us numbers to be in groups so instead we chose our own groups. Everyone worked on it but in the end we found out that we didn't have to hand it in. The answers are not up yet but I'm pretty sure Mr. K will put it up sometime later tonight. Well that's all for now and the scribe for tomorrow's class is .... SANDY!

SCRRIBBEE
MORNING CLASS:
We started a new unit today it is called "The Fundamental Princple of Counting". We were about to start but then the computer crashed. So Mr. K couldn't access to his lesson plan. We just waited a bit then BOOM it started working! Then we started and we talked about the combinations of ties, pants and shirts. There was a question that goes a little something like this
how many outfits can be made from 3 pants and 4 shirts?
3 x 4 = 12
Now you can do it using a tree diagram and it looks like this ....

with two pants, three shirts and two ties.
We did more problems that has to do with tree diagrams and we got into factorials. The symbol for it is ! (yep, its an exclamation mark)
Definition:
n! = (n) x (n-1) x (n-2) x (n-3) its also the same as ... 3 x 2 x 1
0! = 1 (Mr. K will explain more later on this unit why zero factorial is equal to one)
How do you punch it in the calculator?
Hit the botton that says [ MATH ]
At the top of your screen you see the selections [ MATH ] [ NUM ] [ CPX ] [ PRB ]
Use the arrow keys and higlight [ PRB ] then hit the number [ 4 ]
It should then appear to your screen !
Then we had to simplify the following factorial ...

AFTERNOON CLASS:
In the beginning of the class we mostly talked about our D.E.V. We also discussed Grey-M's D.E.V project. Which by the way was very awesome! Good job!. Then we talked about the rubric for it. Mr K. feels that there should be some changes in the rubric. Then for half the class we were put in groups and practiced more on our new unit. Here they are ...

Whooott I'm done. FINALLY! Good thing I wrote down the examples. Have a good night everyone. on BTW the next scribe will be .... SANDY!

There's a lot of equations that were given to us through out the past week... Here are some of them...

"Teachers love teaching this unit because there's so many manipulations you can do. Students hate learning this unit because there's so many manipulations you can do."
Hahah, oh yes Mr. K your right! -_-"
I have to go and hit up the notes. GOOD LUCK EVERYONE! AND GOOD NIGHT!
BOB v3

Hello motto. Test on exponents and logarithms is tomorrow! This is my unit. "Teachers love teaching this unit because there's so many manipulations you can do. Students hate learning this unit because there's so many manipulations you can do." Well isn't this quite true? So many confusing concepts to know it's horrifying! Good luck and have fun tomorrow!

Questions, Questions, and More Questions!
We did a quiz and a couple of questions here's the answers in a more detailed explanation:
For this question, you can think of log 2000 as log (2 x 1000). Then knowing that logs are exponents, we know that when exponents are being multiplied they're really being added together, therefore we get log 2 + log 1000. The value of log 2 is already given as 0.301 and the value of log 1000 is 3 because 10^3 is 1000. Add the two numbers together and you get 3.301, the closest answer to this value would be B).
In log 8 we can change the 8 to 2^3 because that's equivalent to 8. Then since 3 is an exponent we can take it out and put it in front of log so it looks like 3log 2. We know the value of log 2 which is 0.301. Multiply it by 3 and you get 0.903. Closest answer to that is C).
There's actually two ways you can come about to answer this question. First way, you know that log 2 = 0.301. With that you can take the reciprocal and punch it into your calculator to give you an answer around 3. Then there's the much easier way of just finding values for x in 2^x that would give you an answer closest to log2 (1o), which would be 3, that answer is C).
The first one basically explains itself so I'll move onto the next one. This is basically just like the first one however there's an extra step to finding the answers. You must first factor the 4 as an exponent which gives you 2². since the exponent 2 and the log are both exponents you can place the 2 as an exponent of 3. This allows the two bases of 2 cancel out along with the log which leaves you with 3² which gives you 9 as an answer.
To find the answer to this question you change both logarithms into exponents which gives you 3^k = 10 and 9^x = 10. Then in order to solve for x you must make the bases of each exponent the same, we do this by changing 9 to 3² which is the exponential equivalent to 9. Now since we have the same bases all we need to do is solve for the exponential part of the power which gives us x = k/2. That would be answer C).
SECOND CLASS:
We had a Pre-test on Logs & Exponents, here's the answers in more detailed explanations:
.........ok nevermind, the blog is refusing to let me upload my pictures onto this post therefore I can't provide you with questions and detailed explanations, this will have to wait even longer now, I'm sorry but this WOULD'VE been done tonight if it weren't for this DAMN glitch, my apologies again.

More Exponential Modeling
Then Mr. K pulled up more exponential modeling questions on the smart board which were done in groups. I would have liked to show you and explain the slides, although Mr. K did not post them, but that is not to be any worry, because they will probably be posted on Monday, because we did not complete all the slides for the review so we will finish them Monday Morning. As Monday morning is going to be a review period and there will also be a quiz, so that means that Monday afternoon is the pre-test. Tuesday's class is going to be the test day for the Exponents and Logarithms unit.
So Study, Study, Study for Monday's quiz, pre-test, and Tuesday's Test. Make sure to get in those Bobs before the test on Tuesday. Good Luck and Study Hard!
The next Scribe is going to be...........Danny
